Awesome Home Organization Tips | Claire Bett Real Estate Blog

Getting organized in your home can be less expensive and easier than you think. There are items all around your home that can help you get the clutter in order. Here are just a few tips to get you off to a good start:

A big problem is spices, they get lost in the cabinet, take up tons of room and are always hard to see. If this is a problem in your home use a?mop holder to store spices on the inside of a cabinet door.

Too many craft supplies and a place to put them is a typical problem. Arrange crayons, colored pencils and more in an over-the-door shoe organizer. You have all your supplies organized and easy to see in no time.

Use the shoe organizer for anything. It can also be great for cleaning supplies.

If you need decorations for your playroom walls and you have too many board games this is a great solution. Take the glass out of frames and frame the board games and hang on the walls. Attach the game pieces in little baggies to the frame.

What about all that jewelry? If you could actually see it you may even wear it more. Hang a peg board on the wall in your closet and hang your necklaces from it.

Need a place to put your earrings? How about an ice cube tray?

These are just a few nifty ideas. What are your best ideas to keep your home organized?

Russia to keep Georgia territorially divided: Saakashvili

DUBAI (Reuters) - Russia will stop Georgia trying to reunite with two breakaway states even after a parliamentary election won by a coalition led by a politician seen as having warmer ties with Moscow, outgoing Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on Monday.

Russia, which has had no diplomatic relations with Georgia since the two fought a brief war over separatist South Ossetia in 2008, has reacted positively to the October 1 victory of Bidzina Ivanishvili's coalition.

Ivanishvili, who made much of his estimated $6.4 billion fortune in Russia, has said he wants to begin to repair relations with Moscow, but Saakashvili, whom the Kremlin has cast as a figure of hate, said he would face an uphill struggle.

"The basic things don't change and the basic thing is that Russia will fight with us over our territory," Saakashvili told reporters in Dubai on the sidelines of the World Energy Forum.

Russia, which dominated Georgia for centuries until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, has said it isn't prepared to discuss the status of the two breakaway regions - Abkhazia and South Ossetia - which it recognized as independent states after its war with Tbilisi four years ago.

"The first thing that they said is that they are not going to change it, no matter who is in government in Georgia, so that already puts the new government in an incredibly difficult situation," said Saakashvili.

"It doesn't depend on personalities, who is in charge of Georgia, it's really a matter of principle of what Russian policy is and Russian policy is to encroach upon the independence and territorial integrity of its neighbors."

Russia rejects accusations of territorial meddling, saying it intervened in South Ossetia in 2008 to protect its own citizens who live there from what it said was an attempt by Saakashvili to storm it by force.

Saakashvili said during the election campaign that he thought Ivanishvili, 56, would favor Russia over the West. Ivanishvili has denied that but has said he is better placed to build bridges with Moscow.

However, he has also promised to continue Georgia's long drive for deeper integration with NATO and the West, a move that would be likely to upset Russia.

Saakashvili, who has styled himself as a major U.S. ally, said he plans to work with Ivanishvili to ensure a smooth transition of power and hopes to take Georgia a step closer to NATO membership before he leaves office next year.

"The last condition of NATO was that the elections should be free and fair," said Saakashvili. "As they were, they have been treated as fair by everybody, so now Georgia should get a reward for that."

Decade-Long Study Suggests Multivitamins Lower Cancer Risk ...

If you diligently take your multivitamin every day believing it?s got to help somehow, a new study has got your back. In a?recently completed large clinical trial of older men, a link was established between taking a daily multivitamin and a moderate decrease in cancer rates.

Specifically, nearly 15,000 U.S. male doctors aged 50 and older participated in the placebo-controlled study over a median range of 11.3 years. Patients took a daily multivitamin (Centrum Silver from Pfizer) or a placebo. A statistically significant reduction of 8 percent in total cancer incidence was observed among those taking the multivitamin daily. The study was recently published online in The Journal of the American Medical Association.

So it?s not a cure, but every little bit helps when it comes to cancer.

But like all studies, there are some important caveats to consider. For one, this study not only included only older men, but those men just so happened to be physicians as well. That?s an important component to the findings because older physicians likely have quality healthcare and have had it in the past. Furthermore, their knowledge base about medicine means that they?re likely to have more awareness about their health and preventative medicine in general. That isn?t to say that they are altogether healthy either. Doctors are notoriously overworked and under enormous stress as well as struggling with weight issues like many Americans.

Another important point to consider is that the reduction in cancer incidence seemed to vary with the type of cancer. While the number of cancers reported overall was lower, there was no difference in the number of prostate or colorectal cancers reported. This could be because the sample size was not large enough to resolve a difference or because of the specific role the multivitamins play.

It remains to be seen whether the multivitamin benefit of this study is universal or helping a particular segment of society that is has a specific kind of lifestyle.

It?s a safe bet that Pfizer will be adding cancer prevention language to its Centrum Silver marketing.

Still it?s good news for multivitamins and dietary supplements in general,?especially with experts casting doubt lately on their usefulness. For example, a?recent federal report stated that 20 percent of supplements are improperly labeled or make claims that have not been scientifically proven. While research at one time suggested the health benefit of fish oils, a slew of recent studies?have cast doubt on those claims. With all the negative press,?a third of Americans still take a daily multivitamin and half take some kind of supplement.

It wasn?t that long ago?when another widely available pill became the cancer prevention golden child: aspirin. Last spring, three separate studies were published linking daily aspirin with lower cancer incidence in the range of 20 to 30 percent. At the same time, however, other studies have shown no effect with aspirin on cancer rates. More recent studies suggest that aspirin may help prevent cancer?s spread and recurrence, yet these are focused on specific types of cancer only.

Although cancer deaths in the U.S. continue to decline, increases in longevity ensure that cancer will affect more people as they live longer.

So what?s going on here? Why do new studies come out every few months, some of which correct or negate previous studies? And why does it seem like nothing about cancer prevention seems definitive?

One of the biggest problems with cancer is that it?s not just one disease. In fact,?a recent genomic study?identified four separate and distinct types of breast cancer alone. Furthermore, cancer varies with gender, race, age, and culture. It also makes a significant difference where the cancer originates in the body. Many men, for instance, get prostate cancer and survive, but the same cannot be said for pancreatic cancer. How the disease affects the body has a lot to do with physiology, which is influenced by a multitude of factors including diet and drugs. Finally, scientists are just starting to unravel cancer at both the molecular and genetic levels. As it stands, we don?t really understand all that is going on with cancer, but what is known is that?it?s fairly complex.

All this means that cancer is probably the greatest medical challenge in history. Though we are closing in on a cure, it is a long road full of small successes, which now includes this latest news about the preventative benefits of multivitamins. Hopefully, this finding can be verified or at least help to further unravel the mysteries of cancer.

Foster Mother Allowed To Collect $1 Million Insurance After Baby ...

This is just disgusting. An epitome of a bad foster mother allowed a seven-month-old baby who had been in her care for less than three weeks to die of a respiratory infection, choking on her own mucus and vomit while wearing a soiled diaper and covered in roach bites? and then she ended up profiting from her own neglect!

An appeals court ruling has allowed a Tulsa foster mother to ?profit from her own neglect? by collecting about $1 million in insurance proceeds after a baby died in her care, according to court records and a motion by an attorney representing the child?s estate.

Although the baby?s estate won a $24 million judgment in state court against the foster mother, she had no funds to pay the judgment. Two insurance companies providing policies for DHS claimed that their policies shouldn?t have to pay the claim, and the matter wound up in federal court.

In order to collect the judgment, attorneys representing the baby?s estate had to agree to give the foster mother a portion of any settlement proceeds from their federal ?bad faith? lawsuit against the insurance companies.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Frizzell ruled that foster children lack standing to bring such lawsuits, preventing the baby?s estate from collecting on the entire judgment, and the 10th Circuit?s ruling upheld that decision.

Michael Barkett, an attorney representing the estate of 7-month-old Aurora Espinal-Cruz, said the firm plans to contest the ruling.

?If it (the ruling) stands, it preserves the ability of insurance companies to collude with negligent foster parents, avoid accountability to foster kids, and forecloses foster kids? rights to protect and enforce their rights against such conduct,? Barkett said.

However, Keith Taunton, a spokesman for Colony Insurance Co., said, ?The holding by the 10th Circuit in this appeal merely reaffirms Oklahoma law regarding the interpretation of insurance contracts generally and does not change anything as far as foster parents or the DHS foster program are concerned.?

Colony was one of two insurance companies paid by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to provide liability insurance under the foster care program.

Aurora was 7 months old when she died in 2002 in the Tulsa foster home of Deanza Jones. No criminal charges were filed against Jones in the death.

But Barkett?s appeal to the 10th Circuit alleges that ?while under the custody and care of foster parent Deanza Jones, Aurora suffered and died an agonizing death while left neglected and unattended for many days.?

?Aurora was found to have been suffering from untreated viral respiratory illness for days. She died by suffocation on her own emesis and coughed up blood while left abandoned by Jones in a filthy crib infested by cockroaches. Aurora?s skin in and around her diaper area had been eaten away by cockroaches,? the appeal states.

In filings that were part of a state lawsuit against her, Jones denied allegations that she neglected the child.

Aurora and her 4-year-old sister, Casandra, were placed in Jones? home shortly before Aurora?s death Jan. 27, 2002.

A teacher noticed bruises on the older girl, and DHS investigated whether the bruises were caused by ?their stepfather?s harsh discipline,? court records state. The girls? mother, Jamie Cruz, ?was never accused or suspected of any abuse or wrongdoing,? Barkett?s appeal states.

In 2003, Cruz?s estate sued Jones, DHS and several DHS employees individually in Tulsa County District Court.

The estate?s attorney alleged that DHS had received child-abuse complaints against Jones in the past. About nine months after Aurora?s death, Tulsa police investigated a new report of child abuse and arrested Jones on a complaint of injury to a minor child, an arrest report states. She was later charged on accusations that she struck an 8-year-old boy several times with an extension cord, injuring his leg.

Jones admitted her guilt and received a two-year deferred sentence, records show.

DHS dropped Jones and her husband from its foster program because of the child abuse allegations in 2002, officials said. The lawsuit also alleged that DHS workers failed to notify Aurora?s foster parents of her respiratory illness.

Sounds like the foster care system is just as effed up in Oklahoma as everywhere else, but the legal system seems like some really fawkery for this woman to see a dime off the death of that child. And how this woman never saw jail time is beyond us!!!

R.I.P. Aurora

Google to Verizon Android users: carrier billing coming to Play store

DNP Google tweet to Verizon clients 'Pay for Google Play apps on your phone bill'

If you're on Verizon and don't feel like racking up your plastic when you buy Play store apps or content, the carrier will soon give you the option of putting it on your phone bill, according to a recent Google tweet. Mountain View's had the option for a while now, with T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T having already jumped on the app-billing bandwagon, which left Verizon as the final major to climb aboard. Other than saying that you'll be able to bill apps and music that way, details are scant -- but considering Big Red's whopping Android lineup, it's about time.

Car bomb rips through Beirut; casualties expected

BEIRUT (AP) ? A car bomb ripped through eastern Beirut on Friday, shearing the balconies of off residential buildings and sending bloodied victims pouring out into the streets in the most serious blast this city has seen in years.

The casualty toll was not immediately clear, but an Associated Press reporter at the scene saw victims with what appeared to be grave injuries. One young girl was bleeding profusely from her head; other wounded were being loaded into ambulances.

"I was standing nearby in Sassine Square and I heard a big explosion and I ran straight to it," resident Elie Khalil told The Associated Press. He said he saw at least 15 bloodied people in a nearby parking lot before medics arrived and took them to a hospital.

The motive behind the blast and its target were not immediately clear. It comes at a time when Lebanon has seen a rise in tension and eruptions of clashes stemming from the civil war in neighboring Syria.

The state-run National News Agency said the blast was a car bomb and that preliminary information indicated that there were deaths.
